Preperation and understanding context
The following is a sample worksheet that you could be required to complete after listening to part one of four audio clips as part of your IELTS listening test. You will be given time to review this worksheet BEFORE the audio starts playing.

You need to make sure you take full advantage of the period before the audio clip starts playing. Try and develop an understanding of the context of the audio clip and anticipate what kind of information you could require.
Before the clip starts:
- Stay Calm and Focused: Take a deep breath and relax to maintain focus during the test. Nervousness can affect your listening abilities.
- Skim the Questions: Quickly read through the questions to get an idea of what to expect. Underline or mark keywords that can guide your listening.
- Anticipate the Context: Look at the question types and try to anticipate the context of the conversation. Is it about making plans, giving directions, or discussing a specific topic?
- Pre-listening Predictions: Based on the context, try to predict possible answers for the questions. This will help you listen actively for the relevant information.
- Familiarize with Answer Sheet: Get comfortable with the answer sheet format and layout. Understand how to write your answers (e.g., using numbers or words) to avoid mistakes during the test.
